say it ain't so - APB no longer confirmed for Xbox 360?

Fans of Crackdown and massively multiplayer online games have surely been following the development of "APB" (All Points Bulletin) currently in development by Realtime Worlds (the makers of Crackdown).

The game takes place in a modern-day, fictional city where there is a constant battle raging between "Law Enforcement" and "Gangs", and players decide which side they want to pledge their allegence to. The two sides battle for territory within the city 24 hours a day.

Realtime Worlds recently announced that it had secured USD$50 million in funding for "continued expansion", which is The Good News™. The Bad News™ is that they also "clarified" that "the PC edition was the priority and will be the first to market" and "that if [they] proceed with console editions of the game, both an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version" would be considered. Frankly, it's not the PlayStation 3 part that concerns me. They could use a few good games. It's the if part.

"IF" they proceed with a console version?!

Come on, Realtime Worlds, it was Crackdown that thrust you guys into the limelight. And what platform drove Crackdown? Yes, the Xbox 360. Exclusively. Way to stick it to your supporters! Say it ain't so... [Via GameSpot]

Update: A sharp-eyed reader pointed out that mention of a console version (360 or otherwise) is completely absent in Realtime Worlds' latest press release. [Thanks, mnemo]
